Mammatus
A brand identity sprint for Mammatus, an innovative start up software consultancy.


Task
We were tasked with the full creation of an identity which is inspired by the meaning of the word ‘Mammatus’, referencing a cellular pattern of pouches hanging underneath the base of a cloud. Our initial internal questions were: how can the identity sit alongside over high level consultancy branding whilst retaining a sense of individuality? How can the logomark extend out into an identity for Mammatus.co?


Brand Identity
We began the project by exploring abstract forms for the logo, taking inspiration from the distinctive patterns of Mammatus clouds. These natural formations provided a visually rich foundation for the project. We aimed to have the overall design subtly reference the letter M, creating a structural link to the brand name while also serving as the basis for a dynamic pattern system. This approach allows the identity to shift fluidly between logo and graphic language, establishing a recognisable brand presence. The fluidity of the form reflects the company's ability to adapt and respond creatively to industry challenges. Our goal was to have the identity system feel both visually strong and conceptually aligned with the brand’s focus on adaptability and problem-solving for the everchanging future.
